Rutgers University

Rutgers does not have an undergraduate major in education but the Graduate School of Education has a five-year combined bachelor’s/master’s program which allows students to complete preliminary requirements during their undergraduate course of study and receive their master’s just one year later. Another option for undergraduates is to enroll in a certificate program through the Institute for Effective Education at Rutgers. The Graduate School of Education also offers master’s and doctoral degrees in education. U.S. News & World Report ranked Rutgers as one of the top 50 education schools in the country.

Montclair State University

The College of Education and Human Services at Monclair State University offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. Undergraduate students can choose from early childhood education, elementary education, or a specialized subject area for middle school and high school education. Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 to remain in their education degree program. Graduate students can choose from a variety of specialties, including early childhood mental health, school counseling, literacy, and educational leadership. The Graduate School of Education also offers a one-year Fast Track program in educational leadership. Students in this program can complete their degree while working full-time.

Kean University

The College of Education at Kean University has been recognized as one of the 50 largest producers of teachers in the United States and the largest producer of teachers in New Jersey. The College of Education has a number of schools offering specialized degrees at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including the School for Communication Disorders and Deafness, the School for Curriculum and Teaching, and the School for Global Education and Innovation. The average GPA at both schools for both undergraduate and graduate education students is 3.0.

Fairleigh Dickinson University

The Peter Sammartino School of Education offers an accelerated combined-degree program for undergraduates as well as master’s programs in teaching, education for certified teachers, learning disabilities, and educational leadership. QUEST, the combined-degree program for undergraduates, allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and a master’s in teaching in just five years. Fairleigh Dickinson’s College of Education had an aggregate pass rate of 100% on the Higher Education Opportunity Act Title II, which rates teacher education quality, for the 2009-2010 academic year.
