Teaching Degrees in Missouri

Earning a Missouri teacher license begins with a choice of degree programs within the state. Programs must come from accredited institutions that are recognized by Missouri as appropriate schools to earn teaching credentials. Many good universities in the state offer high quality Missouri teacher education programs. These schools provide options in primary and secondary education, while offering a full college experience to students. According to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the right degree program paves the way for the next steps in the process, which include examinations and finally, Missouri teacher certification. A sampling of teacher education schools in Missouri includes:

For prospective teachers interested in teaching at the middle school level, Missouri State University offers an undergraduate program that focuses on reading foundations and technology and leads to state certification. Students who wish to teach at the secondary level can earn a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree, but undergraduates will have their education degrees conferred by the department of the discipline in which they plan to teach. In addition, the school’s Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Special Education offers training programs in educational administration, educational leadership, and special education.
