In order to receive a Louisiana teaching license, a student must first acquire a bachelor’s degree. While a bachelor’s degree in any field will satisfy the education prerequisites for enrollment within a Louisiana teacher education program, many universities within the state offer education-related degrees that will allow a future educator to apply for a Louisiana teacher license upon graduation.
Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Louisiana Tech University are among the four largest teaching schools in Louisiana. This article will highlight the available programs at each of these universities.

Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Education and Human Development is geared towards recruiting graduate students who want to change careers. It does not currently offer undergraduate degrees in education, but does offer graduate degrees in educational leadership, including a doctoral program, as well as alternative certification programs for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in another academic area.
